From Academy-Award® winner Ben Proudfoot, The Eyes of Ghana follows veteran Ghanaian cinematographer Chris Hesse as he races against declining eyesight to preserve more than 1,000 films documenting Africa’s independence movements in the 1950s and ’60s.
Hidden for decades after the 1966 CIA-backed coup that overthrew Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah, this extraordinary archive holds a vital piece of history waiting to be seen.
Now, Hesse is working to bring these images and the stories they hold back into view.
